Recently, I got an e-mail from a reader of one of my articles, and they asked an interesting question, they wanted to know if the president of the United States was experiencing severe depression, if he was suicidal, and if the White House had a rubber room. Indeed, I cannot ascertain if the person asking the question by the e-mail was joking, or serious. However, just in case she was serious I'm going to try to answer it in a serious way below. Please follow along, and consider all this.
As I understand it the White House has a bowling alley, an in-home theater, and now a basketball court. I guess that makes sense, because the President of the United States probably can't go work out at the local gym. Nevertheless, there is one thing that I don't think the White House has, and that's a rubber room. A room that you can put folks that are suicidal, and we know over the years there have been many suicides of top advisers for presidents, some quite noteworthy actually.
The other day, I was talking to a psychologist who indicated to me that there is a lot of stress being the President of the United States, and not every type of personality would be a will handle it. Indeed, I agreed because there are a lot of weak people in the world, but I doubt if a weak person could ever become president, because politics is a tough game. I asked if he thought President Obama might be suicidal after the Republican landslide, which was the biggest landslide in over 70 years.
The psychologist told me that chances were NO and that President Obama is not suicidal, although at some point he will have to reflect on what has happened, and come to terms with what must be done to bring things back. Indeed, I wonder if that will be enough, and I wonder if President Obama is experiencing severe depression right now after his Democratic Party has been destroyed politically. In many regards the politics and the pendulum has now swung the other way.
So, apparently President Barack Obama is not suicidal after this Republican landslide, and the White House does not have a rubber room to answer my reader's question.
